KYUEM Interfaith Dialogue 2011

Onthe 28^th September 2011, an interfaith dialogue had been held byKolej Yayasan UEM (KYUEM) at their Great Hall. The inaugural interfaith talkfeatured four speakers representing Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Christianity.They talked on the topic “The Authenticity of My Holy Scripture”.

Theevent started with the moderator, Mr. Hizami inviting all the speakers up onthe stage. The speakers were Ryan Lee (Buddhism), Reverend Anthony (Christianity),Brother Syah Kirit (Islam), and Mr. Shanmugam Rajoo (Hinduism).
Each speaker had 20 minutes to delivertheir speech accompanied with their power point presentation.

After all the four speakers had given their speech, fellow audience were given the chance to ask questions to any four of them. The speakers would then answer according to their own ability and knowledge in answering those questions which marked the end of this particular event.

Furthermore, this event has given us a wider view about our own religion and also other religion.It was also an eye opener for each and every one of us to have a betterunderstanding about Islam, Hinduism, Christianity and Buddhism.

Howdy, peeps! First post from the Publicity Commitee 2011/2012~ Woot woot!

On 20th September 2011, the HFC had organized a very joyful Hari Raya event. The event kicked off with a video presentation on the students' experience during their Raya celebration followed by a nasyeed performance. Next, was our very own (insert adjective) President's saxophone performance. Three or four band performancescame right after in series. Save the best for last, they say. And indeed, the event ended with an amazinggg zapin performance :D

Tour 3:
Top of the World & Short River Adventure

(a journey of about 2.4km from the entrance to Golden Flowstone, Top of the World and return through the underground river)

Not only will you see the Golden Flowstone and climb to the Top of the World, you will also go down 230 steps and get wet in the underground river! You will have lots of fun crawling through holes and sliding down slippery stones before getting out to be greeted by the beautiful sight of the greenery outside.

Caving Tips :

Basic needs:
Wear comfortable clothes, shoes and socks. Poly-pro or wool types of clothes are the best for caving. For pants, try old Dockers. Denim tends to constrict movement but it can work. Make sure your shoes have good grip. Hiking boots are the best for better traction.
Gloves and kneepads are highly recommended.
Bring mineral water and other personal stuff in small backpack.

Other must bring:
A change of clothes, towel and shoes/sandals (you need not bring these into the cave. Leave them in your vehicle as you will need them only after the tour).
Torchlight.

Optional:
Camera. Don’t bring expensive ones. Put camera in watertight plastic or container. It is a good idea to put everything in water-proof plastic bags so items won’t get soaked.
Caving helmet.
First aid kid.
Extra torches and back-up batteries.

The High Flyers Club of Taylor’s College had successfully organized the first Sports Day with Sponsors event. The event saw the participation of almost 180 scholars from Taylor’s different pre-university programs, which are the Cambridge A-Levels (CAL), Canadian Pre-University (CPU) and South Australian Matriculation (SAM). The event was a success and total hit. The American Degree Transfer Programme (ADP) was unable to join this event because they will be sitting for their final exam on the next day. MARA, Petronas, Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA), Ministry of Education (MoE) and Yayasan Telekom Malaysia were among the sponsors that were invited to join the sports event.

The whole event started approximately around 8.30 a.m. with a welcoming speech by Mr. Zainal Tik, Vice President for Business Development of Taylor’s University College, followed by a short speech delivered by the program director Mohammad Amirul of the South Australian Matriculation Program. The emcee of the day was Al Falah Alhas who did a brilliant job in entertaining and controlling the crowd. The main purpose of the event is to strengthen the bond between scholars and their sponsors and to let these scholars have the opportunity to enjoy themselves in the midst of their hectic daily schedule.

The first match for futsal and netball marked the starting of the sports day event. Futsal, basketball and netball were the three major sports competition. These three sports were chosen as it is believed that these are the most popular and well known sports among youth today. Since the recreational centre was lacking of courts, the basketball competition had to be carried out after the netball competition had finished. Lucky enough for the futsal players, both males and females teams can go simultaneously since there were two separate futsal courts.

The crowds were really supportive. Students from each programme had gone all out to support their favorite teams. Some programmes had even prepared pom-poms and flags for their respective teams in order to keep the spirits of their team members high. Half way through the day, most of the matches were done and some of the winners were known by 11.30 p.m.

The finale of the whole event was the final match for both basketball and futsal for males. A-level and CPU conquered the final basketball and A-Levels had been able to defeat CPU by few points. Futsal on the other hand had a different scenario where both teams were the representatives from the sponsors. The final match was between Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam and Yayasan Telekom Malaysia which resulted in Yayasan Teleokm Mlaysia being the champion.

After the final matches ended, the prize giving ceremony started immediately as everyone was starting to get restless. For each game, the winners were given medals. Below is the result for the games:

Futsal (male): Winner: Yayasan Telekom Malaysia

1^st runner-up: JPA

2^nd runner-up: Ministry of Education

Futsal (female): Winner: SAM

1^st runner-up: Ministry of Education

2^nd runner-up: CPU

Basketball: Winner: A-Levels

1^st runner-up: CPU

2^nd runner-up:A-Levels

Netball: Winner: Ministry of Education

1^st runner-up: Petronas

2^nd runner-up: SAM

Everyone was satisfied with the result for these three games and finally the overall winner was announced. A-levels was the overall winner and they got the chance to bring back the challenge trophy. Their victory was unexpected as they were the team with the least number of participants. South Australian Matriculation got the second place and the Canadian Pre-University followed suit.

Happening CNY!!

The High Flyers club of Taylor’s University College successfully organized its 1st Chinese New Year Celebration on the 24^thof February 2010 at the Multi Purpose Hall. The event went by the theme of ‘Welcoming the Year of the Tiger’ and attendees were encouraged to wear red or traditional Chinese clothing. Attended by students from ICPU, CAL, SAM, ADP, and staffs, the event was quite an achievement albeit short of the expected turnout. The emcees of the day were Safhan Jameela and Ahrthyh. .

The emcees greeted the crowd and a short welcoming speech was delivered by the directors of the event, Zakkeeyyah and Lim Hui Tze. This speech was followed by the performance of a lion dance which in Chinese culture, symbolizes the welcoming of luck and prosperity. The show was performed by a group of secondary school students exclusively invited for the event. It was definitely a heart-stopping show as the drums beat loudly and the lions danced at the centre of the hall. The crowds were very much excited and some were ecstatic at seeing the dance for the first time. Mr Lim Tou Boon was presented with a small gift from the lion dance troupe.

The event continued with the ultimate calligraphy writing competition in which five volunteers came on stage to test their Chinese Calligraphy writing skills. Out of the 5, there were 4 Chinese contestants and 1 Indian contestant.

It was a wonderful and memorable event which had bonded the students and instilled the 1 Malaysia spirit in everyone of us!!!

With caches of reminiscence and sweet stories kept firm in our hearts, HFC has really curved an unforgettable experience to many us, the scholars of Taylors throughout this journey at Subang Jaya, a city of traffic jam, and honks.

Aiman was the president of HFC since August 08 to May 09. With him being the head, various changes were seen. Some were;

Kelab Bina Insan was changed to High Flyers Club in November 2008 for universality,

HFC was transferred to ECA which was previously under the SSU, establishing the club and maintains the formality in organisisng any events.

On behalf of the club, we would like to extend our biggest gratitude to Aiman, who is currently having fun at Canada.

Therefore, in May 2009, I Yuhin Asadulhaq replaced his seat with Ms. Norzayana Yusof as my loyal Vice President. Being in his shoes for 5 months has really taught me a lot in moving together as a group, as a whole. As HFC. With the new committee members formed in May, no words other than Thanks peeps!

In short, we welcome the 2009/2010 batch with all bright smile and a wide span of arms.
Hoping u people could be even better than us, in carrying HFC to further improvements.

In fact, there will be some of them coming from outstation and boarding school, they might face cultural shock especially for those being here in Subang for the first time. Some might still take college as their previous school. Relying on teachers for notes and exercises. ahh i need not say more right.. you people know better ;)

Tree Party 2009 Rocks!!!

There was a party being on whole day long on the 21st of June 2009 and it was awesome!

Held in Kota Damansara thrown by Wild Asia in collaboration with Kota Damansara Community Forest and AMP Radio, it just took our hearts closer to our mother nature, away fom those thick textbooks. *shinkshink*

ok,ok. let's just get straight into the pics, cause pics worth a million words.

We reached there on time. 7.30am. while waiting for our first instruction.

JPA Friendly Futsal

It's Saturday morning and the ground shook as the two titans, one in blue and the other in multitude of colours, stepped into the ring. This is obviously an exaggeration.

The ball started rolling around 11.10am. We play continuously until 1.00pm because JPA booked one court for full two hours. After that, we all went to Restoran Padang Kota at Mydin to have lunch. The day ended after a full belly of Nasi Kandar and Air Sirap.

The match was not official. It was intended to be just for fun. So, it's like after each match, another two teams will go in. No pressure what so ever. And with that in mind, I have no guilt at all to say that WE LOST ALL THE MATCHES! (except for one where we ended with a tie, but that's partly because JPA officers were tired)

Fuh, worthwhile...

Persidangan Kebangsaan IKS Bumiputera 2009

Due to the current economic turmoil and to encourage our local entrepreneurs, the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Corporation Development (MeCD) with full collaboration from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) have organised a special conference on Small Medium Enterprise (SME).

This National Conference of SME Bumiputera 2009 was held from 10th to 11th March 2009 at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC). With the theme of ‘Commercialisation of Research and Innovated Products through Business Matching’, around 1400 participants consist of students and entrepreneurs joined this conference. Together participated, were 5 students from Taylor’s University College (TUC). Participants were provided with a comfortable accommodation which was at Hotel Wira situated at a walking distance from PWTC.

Participants started off the first day (10th March) with a scrumptious breakfast at Hotel Wira’s cafeteria on the first floor. Registration was at 8 am and exactly at 9 am, participants were given a briefing on the whole day’s event which was fully held in the Kelantan Room. After that at 9.10 am, the plenary session went on with a talk given by Puan Mariamah bt Daud from Malaysian Technology Development Corporation Sdn. Bhd. on ‘Commercialisation of Research Products’. Besides, an informative talk was also given by Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd. Jailani Mohd Nor from the Ministry of Higher Education on ‘Issues and Barriers in Commercialising R&D Products from IPT’

After half an hour of coffee break, the first commercial presentation went on at 11 am. This session was mainly aimed on commercialising new projects and discoveries done by students and professors from our public universities. Lunch was at 12pm until 1.45 pm and the opening session was held right after the coming of Dato’ Noh bin Hj Omar, Minister of MeCD and Tan Sri Dr. Nordin bin Kardi, Vice Chancellor of UUM. Tan Sri Dr. Nordin took the ball rolling of this session and a speech was given by Dato’ Noh bin Omar to officiate the conference. The second and third session of commercialisation started at 4 pm.

To participants who were interested in getting to know more on these newly invented products, a specific Commercial Matching Workshop was held for every products invented on other small rooms. Thus, participant got a chance to choose either going to the workshops or continue seeing other commercial presentations, and the same procedure went on for the second day. The conference ended at 6 pm.

As for the second day (11th March), more findings and breakthrough were illustrated. After registration at 8.30 am, participants of the conference were shown with products of healthcare under the commercial presentation session 4. Coffee break was at 10.30 am and later, the fifth commercial presentation was on. The last commercial presentation session was held at 2 pm.

Also being held for a few days was the exhibition of these inventions and findings on the exhibition area. We did not miss the opportunity to walk around and have a look at these products closely. Later at 3.30 pm, the Forum Usahawan IKS was held panelled by Dato’ Prof. Dr. Hassan Yaacob from Healwell Pharmaceuticals (M) Sdn. Bhd., the founder of Jeli Gamat. In his talk, he talked about his ups and downs in commercialising the sea cucumber jelly. ‘Copy-cat producers’ are everywhere. Therefore, he reminded us for quite a number of times to stay firm and never quit.

Besides, Dato’ Dr. Nordin Darus from World Wellness Network Sdn. Bhd. was also there as one of the panels. His energetic talk was fired up with a small stretching by us shaking our hands back and forth until we can feel the energy charge around us. That really woke us up after hours of talks and presentations. Dr. Nordin’s talk was really an eye-opener for us in seeing business as a matter of taking opportunity. He also converse about the things that we need to have as a businessman/woman; confidence and bravery.

The closing session was launched by Dato’ Musa bin Ahmad, the Secretariat of MECD accompanied by Dr. Mohd Ahmad Amy Azhar bin Hj. Mohd Hanif, Executive Director of Persidangan Kebangsaan IKS Bumiputera 2009. The event ended at 5.30 pm. As for representatives from TUC, we were all safe going home at around 7.30 pm.

Gua Tempurung Expedition Rocks!

I don't think we need an essay to tell you how fun, adventurous, and exciting this expedition was. So, I figured it's better to let these pictures do the job.

If you think these are claustrophobic enough, THINK AGAIN. There are smaller passages where you have to literally crawl (I think "swim" is a better word) with your chest to the ground.

Watch your head. The cave can hurt you. Trust me (personal experience).

Conclusion : It was wet and dirty. What more could you want?

For those who were unable to join us, we'll try to organize similar events in the future. So, stay updated okay?

Moral lessons for next time :

1. Bring a brighter torch light. It's TOTALLY dark in there.
2. Wear long sleeve shirts. All the crawling can hurt your elbow.
3. Wear quality sport shoes. Otherwise, your shoe will "talk".
4. Wear tough pants. That is, if you don't want holes in them later.
5. Take care of your camera. It will be damaged if wet.
6. Bring extra batteries. Your cameras or torch lights will need them.
7. Bring a towel. It's gonna be very, very dirty.
8. Do not roll your way through tight passages. You'll get very dizzy.
9. Lastly, bring your nerves of steel. Otherwise, don't go.

Gua Tempurung Expedition : Registration Closed!

Greetings from High Flyers Club!

FYI, we already manage to gather up 38 students for the expedition, which is roughly about one bus. Therefore, the Sponsorship Support Unit (SSU) and myself had discussed it and we decided to CLOSE THE REGISTRATION for the expedition.

Although we planned for two buses, but due to time constraint in order to manage the bus and lunch for the students, we can't wait for any more registration after this. The SSU needs the time to make the necessary arrangements.

However, don't be disappointed because if the responds from students are indeed good, then we will organize another trip for students who are not able to go this time. There is still a silver lining guys! ^_^

For those who already registered, please pay your RM30 fee to our representatives by this coming Thursday, before 12.00pm. The sooner the better. We appreciate your cooperation.

Please remember to wear sporty attire, bring extra clothing, and bring a torchlight. The traveling details will be emailed to you. So make sure you check your email regularly.

Konvensyen Patriotisme Remaja 2009

On 26th February 2009, 14 students from ICPU and ADP participated in the “Konvensyen Patriotisme Remaja 2009” which was held at PICC, starting from 8.00 am to 5.30 pm. The convention carried the theme “Patriotisme Asas Perpaduan Kita”.

The first session was a talk presented by Datin Paduka Dr. Hajah Sharifah Mazlina binti Syed Abdul Kadir, the first Muslim women to conquer the North and South Poles, entitled “Menjulang Maruah Negara”. It was a very energetic talk given by Datin. She presented the topic through an acronym “M.A.R.U.A.H”. M stands for Mentality, A stands for “Amanah”, R stands for “Rahsia”, U stands for ‘Usaha”, A stands for “Agong”, and lastly H stands for “Hebat”.

After the refreshments, it was time for the forum about “Patriotisme: Di Mana Bumi Dipijak, Di Situ Langit Dijunjung”. The panelists were Professor Teo Kok Seong, Mejar Dr. Faiz bin Khaleed, and Datuk Dr. Denison Jayasooria. The forum was moderated by Syed Munawar bin Syed Mohd Mustar. The first round which consisted of the definition of what the topic given was all about and what needs to be done to instill patriotism in youth. The second round took a more serious route when the issue of race, language, and unity came to play. After the forum was over, the moderator opened the floor for questioning. Surprisingly, students were technically fought for the microphones. There were about 35 questions being asked with energy and emphasis. It was overwhelming that Prof. Teo said, "Aku naik bengong" in a Kelantanese accent. Unfortunately, due to time constraint the panelists were given 3 minutes each to answer the questions.

The program continued with the next session about “Perlembagaan Negara, Asas Perpaduan Rakyat” which was delivered by Tan Sri Dr. Nordin bin Kardi. He opened the floor for questioning before beginning his speech. Some of us got up and asked the first few questions regarding Malaysia as an Islamic Country, democracy, and the importance of the Sultanate. Other students from various institutions also took that opportunity to ask questions. In the end, there were about 37 questions collected. The speaker answered the questions by categorizing them, considering some of the questions fell under the same scope. He talked about how the Constitution first came about, how all the races were in consensus, the resemblance of the Constitution with the Islamic history in terms of the system of representative, and the peace that Malaysia has in contrast with countries which are under chaos like Palestine and Afghanistan.

The Minister of Education, Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin bin Tun Hussein arrived like a celebrity. Before the minister gave his speech, Dato’ Haji Alimuddin bin Haji Mohd Dom stepped up to give his introductory speech. Then, the minister gave his. His speech was energetic with a few moments of crescendo into an outburst of spirit which resulted in an uproar among the audience. He referred to them as “patriots”. He was so excited on the youth energy that filled the air that he lost track of time.

After his speech, everybody got up to sing two patriotic songs while waving the national flag before ending the program. It was 6.00 pm when the program finally came to an end, half an hour later than the set time which was supposed to be 5.30 pm.

High Flyers is organising a latest activity for all Taylor's College students. As you can read this post title, i surely know what comes to your mind.

Yup!! You're right!

Gua Tempurung, one day exploration. It will be so fun and challenging. Interested? These are the details:

Fee: RM 30.00 (per person) - breakfast & lunch included

So guys, no need to think further since seats are so limited. Only 80 students get the chance to spend their whole day with Gua Tempurung. But wait! since we need to be fair, we already put quotas for students according to your program (based on total number of students). It is as follows;

REAL Undergraduate Conference 2009

The national leadership conference, Real Undergraduate Conference (RUC09), with the theme “Malaysia Bebas Dadah 2015” was held on 31 January 2009, at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC). Organized by Real Leaders, this conference was conducted with main objective of instilling leadership values within students from various government and private institutions as well as emphasizing on prevention on drug usage. It is a collaborative program between the Ministry of High Education and Persatuan Mencegah Dadah Malaysia (PEMADAM).

A speech from the Head of PEMADAM Kebangsaan was given, indicating the end of opening session of the conference.

The first talk was presented by Major Dr. Faiz Khaleed from the National Space Agency. The subject in his talk was regarding relationship. In his talk, he shared valuable experiences that he gained from the astronaut program he had participated. He also mentioned the hardships that he faced in communicating with different people he encountered and reminded us on the importance of adapting into a new environment. Another main point in his talk was the significant of having the ability to handle oneself in stressful situations. It was an interactive talk.

The next speaker was Mr. Mohamed Akwal Sultan. The focus topic of his talk was “You and Your Money”. He is the CEO of Counseling Agency and Credit Management or shortly known as AKPK. His talk revolved around the importance of managing money. He also provided a number of suggestions on the best way to save money for the future, without the worry of living with debts. His talk was compact and informative.

After an hour break, the conference continued with a very fresh talk given by the CEO of Real Leaders himself, Mr. Amirul Iskandar Mannan. As an introduction, he told the early stories behind all the efforts taken in making Real Leaders a reality. From the shared stories, he nicely related it back to the importance of an individual having the right attitude in making things happen. Attitude was his main subject that evening. He also summed up on how to have a positive attitude at all times into five effective tips. His talk was indeed motivating.

The consequent talk was given by the Vice President of PETRONAS, Datuk Dr. Rosti Saruwono. His context of talk was concerning teamwork. In relation with teamwork, he presented his talk by giving different interesting chronologies related to the fundamental need of teamwork. He concluded that none can be at the position where we stand today without the value of teamwork. His valuable advices gave great impact to the participants.

Lastly, an energetic talk was given by Dr. Maznah Hamid, the Executive Chairman of Securiforce. Famously known as the Iron Lady of Malaysia, her talk emphasized more on leadership qualities. In her talk, she shared her brave story in the past as well as all the hardships and sacrifices she had to endure which in return, had brought her to the position she possessed today. None can deny that her leadership qualities were so impressive and it was a privilege to listen to her talk.

Bus Problems?

I've been in Subang for a while now and I've just realized something funny here compared to my town. Here, there are more cars and less bicycles! Could it explains the lifestyle of people nowadays? Who knows. But in Japan, they have lots more bicycles I think.

Anyway, what I want to point out here is about transportation. Now we have noticed that the bus has been a bit of a problem this year due to the change in the academic schedule of SAM students. So, if you have any problems with transportation, please forward your complaints or concerns to us or you can go straight to the Sponsorship Support Unit (SSU) Office (above The Web) and meet the officers there.

FYI, the High Flyers and SSU are here to help all the scholars.

p/s : you can always ride a bicycle to Taylor's. Just a thought ^_^

Buy Malaysia Campaign Launching Event

It is pleased to inform that the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KDPNHEP) has taken some judicious steps in giving its hands to our local sellers and buyers in facing the effects of the current economics’ stand globally.

In accordance to this effort, a Buy Malaysia Campaign (Kempen Beli Barangan Buatan Malaysia) organised by KDNHEP with full collaboration from Mydin Mall Subang Jaya was launched on Friday, 16th January 2009 by our Prime Minister, Datuk Sri Abdullah Hj Ahmad Badawi, accompanied by the Minister of KDPNHEP, Dato Shahrir Abdul Samad.

Together invited were the students of Taylor’s University College (TUC) staying at Casa Subang Apartment right beside the mall. Reaching there at 2.50 pm with our Black Taylor’s t-shirt, 17 of us waited for the coming of our Prime Minister and Minister of KDNDHEP enthusiastically. As scheduled, at 3 pm, both of them arrived with a Black Proton Perdana celebrated with a Malay traditional dance performance. Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad took the ball rolling, and a speech from Datuk Seri Abdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi was given, to officiate the campaign. This event was held simultaneously with two other states which were at Sibu, Sarawak and Labuan Federal Territory, Sabah.

The launching event went on for an hour. Our Prime Minister and Minister of KDNDHEP were then escorted around the booths to have a look on the activities that were on. Batik demonstration, craftsmanship, and selling of our local products were occupying the well-decorated parking lot.

This grand event took place for days starting from Friday to Monday. Providing free trishaw ride along the extended canopy, this activity was really an eye catching to visitors and undoubtedly helpful in encouraging consumers to support our local products.

Representitives from TUC were all enthused over the various local products sold on market, previously unknown for them :)

Transition Phase

The club is currently under a transition phase. Lots of stuff going on. The new name is spreading (hopefully) and the new committee members are about 85% completely structured. After the committee members are all in place, then activities can be organized right away.

FYI, the club is moving. We're not dozing off on the back stage or anything. It's just going to take a while before we are fully operational. But not to worry because I get the feeling that it'll be pretty soon.

Current update :

The High Flyers will be under ECA soon. Like I said, we are currently under a transition phase from SSU to ECA.

KBI has a new name!

Hey guys, here is the latest update about KBI!

KBI will change it's name soon. After discussing with the "VIPs", the new KBI name will be the High Flyers. So say goodbye to KBI folks!

Why change the name?

Well, many students (especially scholars) misunderstood what this club is. In order to get their minds straight about the club, changing the name into something more "universal" would be an appropriate first step. A lot of time and consideration are given to come up with this name so we hope you guys like it. Feel free to interpret what the name represents. The implicity of it will diversify the meaning.

p/s : there will also be a new blog coming up so make sure you guys stay updated.

KBI 2008

Hey everybody!

My name's Muhammad Aiman bin Azlan and I'm the new KBI President. Many of you might be wondering why KBI is being "silent" for so long but I can assure you that we are planning many activities for you guys. Just watch out for them ok!

So we have 2 main agendas which are :

1) Changing the name of Kelab Bina Insan. We realized that many of you are having the perception that KBI is only for Malay/Muslim students. It is certainly NOT. KBI is for all scholars. So, to prove that we are on that commitment, this is our effort. We are still brainstorming for the perfect name. If you guys have any good ones, please don't hasitate to put down your suggestions here or to any of our new KBI members.

2) To rearrange the KBI Commitee. We want to create a commitee which has all the main races in Malaysia plus all the scholarship bodies and programs. So in doing so, I will rearrange the current commitee structure to incorporate more non-Malay bureau leaders. Again, this one needs brainstorming too. But I'll my best to pick the best.

So basically that's what KBI is doing thus far. We're sorry for being "inactive" all this time but rest assured that there will be many interesting and BENEFICIAL activities in store for you guys.

Fast Breaking Ceremony 2008

On 19th of September 2008, Kelab Bina Insan (KBI) of Taylor’s University College had organized a fast breaking ceremony for all Taylor’s students at Masjid Al-Husna in Bandar Sunway. The students have to buy tickets at RM 5 each as a food coupon to enjoy the delicious meal. The tickets was sold a week before the ceremony by volunteered students who were kind enough to spare their precious time with the job. Posters were put up all over campus to publicize this event plus the announcement made via Taylor’s Online. About 294 Muslim students participated on the ceremony including 3 internationals. The ceremony was also enriched with the presence of 3 non-Muslims students.

Before that, there was a tazqirah session in Lecture Theater 2 at Taylor’s University College Main Campus. The tazqirah was touching about “Lailatul Qadar”, the one night that is full of rewards for all Muslims during the month of Ramadhan. The theater was almost filled with students who were interested to know more about the most-awaited night in Ramadhan.

As soon as the place started crowding, the atmosphere came to life with the sound of laughter in the air and the smiles on the students’ faces. They were taking pictures and chatting away with their friends.

There were “ayam masak merah”, meat curry, “sambal sotong”, “sayur lodeh”, assorted veggies, fried mee hoon, curry puffs, “kuih seri muka”, “kuih cucur badak”, dates, red bean porridge, mix fruits, syrup and tea. The students were also greeted with the sight of an INDOCAFE truck which offered free cold coffee drinks. The students lined up to get their food and settled in their respective seats and wait for the azzan.

When the clock stroke 7.12pm, the crowd went silent as the sound of azzan filled the air. Everybody said their prayers and began feasting. The feast was not long as the Muslims need to perform their Maghrib prayers. After the prayers, they settled in together with the local residents to recite the Yassin. The non-Muslims waited outside the mosque for their ride home. They were very pleased with the event as it was their first time. After the Yassin, the Muslims continued with their Isyak prayers and Tarawikh prayers.

After the prayers, everyone teamed up and cleaned the feasting area. Due to effective teamwork, their job was done in no time.

Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration 2008

On Friday, 10th of October 2008, a Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration was organized by Kelab Bina Insan (KBI) and the Compulsory Subjects Unit of Taylor’s University College (TUC). The ceremony was held in the Multi Purpose Hall of TUC Main Campus. The successful celebration ceremony was attended by approximately 600 guests. A total of 60 students were involved in the preparation committee for this ceremony.

Many wonderful Hari Raya songs were played as students started to fill the hall, creating the Hari Raya atmosphere for the event. To start of, the two M/Cs gave their opening speeches. After that, Ustazah Wan Noor Hazlina was invited to give her speech.

Brother Amir ‘Afwan was invited to the stage for Al-Quran recitation. He recited Surah Al-Mukminun verses 1-11.

Later, the guests were invited to eat the dishes and cookies that had been served earlier. The main courses were satay, fried rice and fried noodles. Many other snacks and cookies were brought by the students especially students from SAM program. There were also tea and syrup served for the beverages.

When the guests were eating, a multimedia performance was presented. After that, a nasyid group lead by Hussin was invited to the stage to sing a song titled "Jalinan". The nasyid group had been given a tremendous applause by the audiences.

The ceremony ended. Then, the committee members of Hygienic Bureau cleaned up the hall. Overall, the ceremony was well handled and it is hoped that the celebration next year will be better organized and improved.

Pada pukul 10.40 pagi, ahli ahli ( dan bukan ahli ) berkumpul di Ridzuan Condo dan dihantar ke Plantinum Club menaiki kereta yg dipandu oleh En. Adnan Omar dan Saudara Faisal (J1). Lebih kurang dalam pukul 11.15am semua peserta telah tiba di Plantinum Club dan perlawanan bermula pada pukul 11.30 pagi.

LDK PERTAMA

Pada 1 march 2008, jam 9.00pagi, program di mulakan dengan ucapan alu-aluan daripada pihak KRIM dan juga pengerusi Kelab Bina Insan. LDK pertama yang dinamakan Youth Café bermula jam 10.00 pagi. Aktiviti ini di ketuai oleh ketua fasilitator iaitu saudari Shi.Bersesuaian dengan tajuk aktiviti ini iaitu youth café, sembang-sembang antara para fasilitator dan peserta bermula.

Sembang-sembang yang berunsurkan ilmiah ini di adakan untuk memudahkan para peserta bertanya dan melansungkan perbincangan dua hala antara kedua-dua pihak. Setiap fasilitator di minta untuk menceritakan pengalaman mereka ketika belajar di pre-U dan di luar Negara.

Para fasilitator juga memberitahu beberapa tips kepada para peserta mengenai bagaimana untuk berhadapan dengan suasana baru di luar negara yang pastinya berbeza dengan Malaysia.Para peserta kelihatan aktif dan dilihat progresif dalam mengajukan persoalan yang bernas. persoalan yang menjadi tanda tanya sebelum ini telah terjawab dengan baiknya oleh para fasilitator. Program ini berjalan lancar sehingga jam 12.30 tengahari.

"EXCELLENCE BEGINS WITH POSITIVE ATTITUDE"

Pada pukul 2.00 petang, Ustaz Hasrizal bin Abdul Jamil tiba di Lecture Theater 1 untuk memberikan ceramah beliau yang bertajuk "Excellence Begins With Positive Attitude". Beliau memulakan ceramah dengan memperkenalkan diri dan beramah mesra dengan para peserta yang hadir. Sambutan yang diberikan oleh peserta terhadap ceramah beliau adalah amat menggalakkan. Slide show yang digunakan juga adalah menarik. Setiap peserta program diberi salinan slide show tersebut di dalam bentuk "hard copy".

Secara ringkasnya, isi ceramah itu menekankan kepentingan sikap sebagai faktor yang penting untuk mencapai kejayaan. Alhamdulillah, ceramah ini berjalan dengan lancar sehingga pukul 4.30 petang. Kemudian, para peserta diberi masa untuk berehat, solat Asar dan menjamu juadah yang diberikan sebagai "tea-break" sebelum slot kedua ceramah oleh Ustaz Hasrizal bermula.

The existense of the Sponsorship Support Unit (SSU) sometime in September 2007 was made possible due to the increasing number of sponsored students from various Goverment linked agancies and corporate bodies. The SSU is responsible for the large group of sponsored students currently pursuing their pre-university and tertiary studies at Taylor's University College.

Solving current issues ranging from accomodation to transport, F&B to monthly allowance, liasing with the sponsoring bodies and agreement, has become part of its chief existence.

This unit aids students in dealing with documents regarding to sponsorship as well as provides excellent back end support services including provision for extra curricular activities.

Apart from what had already mentioned, the purposes of this unit are :

1) To respond to inquiries and resolve difficult questions relating to welfare, admissions, and transportation that are not within the standard parameters of college guidelines and policies.

2) To assist and advise students in organizing and implementing student activities, events, and functions.

3) To assist in liaising with Programme Offices on matters pertaining to sponsored students.

4) To record and maintaining the database on sponsored students.

5) To help in the preparation of documents required by sponsored bodies.
